Developed in a unique partnership between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive, the SLR McLaren took the supercar world by storm upon its unveiling in 1999. Rather than pursue all-out performance, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren sought to create a car that could easily outperform its competition while also serving as a capable, comfortable, and luxurious high-speed grand tourer. Powered by an AMG-tuned, 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 engine, the SLR’s performance was eye-opening. Good for a reported 617 horsepower, the SLR could sprint to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds on its way to a 206-mph top speed. Supremely engineered and manufactured to incredible standards at McLaren’s facilities in Woking, United Kingdom, the SLR represents one of the finest blends of supercar and grand tourer—and with its eye-catching “butterfly” doors, its spectacle persists even when parked.
Finished in one of the model’s most spectacular liveries of Crystal Palladium Grey Metallic over Silver Arrow 300 SL Red leather trim, this SLR McLaren displays just 2,653 miles at cataloguing time. In addition to its desirable interior package—a $9,900 option when new—the car also features larger driver and passenger seats, black contrasting interior stitching, a dual-tone, leather-wrapped steering wheel, red-painted brake calipers, protective paint film, and the model’s signature 19-inch turbine wheels. One of 2,157 examples produced, the car was first sold in Massachusetts and is reported to have spent time in California and Florida before the consignors’ acquisition.
A rare collaboration between two iconic powerhouse manufacturers, coupled with ultra-low production numbers and remarkable performance figures, has elevated the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren to a revered status in supercar circles. This example, displaying only 2,653 miles, with coveted factory options and a showstopping color combination, stands as one of the most exhilarating SLR McLarens available—a car whose legend and desirability will only continue to grow with time.
